I am just curious. I saw it at a friend's house and I thought it was okay. Not horrible, not really the best either. But I just see a lot of negative backlash or total disregard of that movie. I liked how this movie explored different parts of the world. It was on Mater's POV and I know they had the cliche of getting him a girlfriend Holly at the end.

One word: Mater. Most adult fans do not care for the guy at all and find him incredibly annoying. He's a big hit with little kids though which is really what the Cars franchise is all about at the end of the day.

I don't think the movie is particularly bad, but when it comes to Pixarian standards, well... It just doesn't measure up well. I think the negative backlash was from the disappointment of expecting another Toy Story 2, and getting a Saturday morning cartoon instead. It was the first time audiences could feel that a Pixar movie had come into being for monetary rather than artistic reasons. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather watch Cars 2 than Shrek The Third any time, but it somehow marks the transition from the old-school Pixar to the Pixar of today.

I don't care for Mater either. He is annoying too in general to me, but he had his good parts like being heroic and being a good loyal friend to Lightening. One of the reasons why is that there's this scene I hate when he mistakenly thought that wasabi was ice cream that dragged on for too long than what it needed.

My mom loves Mater omg. People who are older than me by a year or so love him. But I understand why a lot of adults don't like him. But I think it was nice that they gave Mater his own movie. Like MI was Sulley's and MU was Mike's. The Cars franchise isn't just about Lighting. And it's not as bad as people say it is. They just want to hate on it, if you ask me.
If people don't like it, that's fine with me. It's not fine when they hate on it and act like it's the worst thing ever because it's not. I personally enjoyed it and I like how they gave exposure to different cultures and they even gave exposure when they used Perfume's song in the Japan party scene.

This could just be because I'm still a kid, but I don't really have a problem with Mater. I can agree that he can be annoying sometimes, and even though I honestly don't really care for that movie, he's still my favorite character in the franchise. And I can't see why adults wouldn't like him either, I mean he's Larry the Cable Guy for god's sake, who doesn't think Larry is funny, right?
