Attack on Titan's great if you're okay with vore. Hayore! Nyarko-san's also one of my favorites. It's basically what would happen if Lovecraft wrote a harem anime.

Attack on Titan, Higurashi, Mirai Nikki, Death Note, Vampire Hunter D, and Monster! I tried Another out, but imo the plot and characters sucked, though the art style and the death scenes were pretty good. Some of the deaths made me laugh really hard, it's just so Final Destination-like and...dumb.
My first anime/manga series I ever got into were when I was 12, and those were Marchen Awakens Romance (my very first series, though the manga is way better than the anime), Bleach, and Godchild. In terms of manga I love most of Kaori Yuki's work, and Claymore is amazing as well (also an anime, and I'd recommend it to Attack on Titan fans). In terms of manhwa, Let Dai is amazing (this is shounen ai and very dark and violent at times), and Les Bijoux is pretty obscure but very unique! Oh, and Petshop of Horrors is pretty good too, it's both an anime and a manga. I used to like Loveless, but it sucks now...pity about that. It has an anime OVA and a longer manga series which has been going downhill for years now.
I'd recommend Uzumaki for horror fans, and really anything by the same author.
I'm not typically a shoujo/romance fan, but The Story of Saiunkoku is a massive exception. I really enjoy it. It also has both an anime and a manga, though I haven't finished either of them yet and it's been a year or so since I left off on the series. I get distracted easily.
I plan on reading Deadman Wonderland next. I've already started on it a while back, but haven't made it very far. It's really bloody, just in case anyone is put off by that. I almost read Umineko at the bookstore, but I chose Another to read instead...I have a feeling I would've liked Umineko: When They Cry better. It's still on my to-read list, in any case.

I haven't read or seen MAR in such a long time. I haven't even fished it yet.

If you like adventure and comedy, go see One Piece. It's epic! I liked the early days of Pokemon, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon and Hamtaro when I was younger. My current favorite anime is One Piece and favorite manga is Fruits Basket.
Full Metal Alchemist is another good anime. There's the first anime and there's Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. (Haven't seen Brotherhood anime, but it's true to the manga which I personally think is better than the first anime)
Another note: For One Piece, avoid the 4Kids english version unless you want to for laughs..it's horrendous. Either go for the Funimation dub or watch japanese with subs. I prefer watching japanese with subs for One Piece.

I really like Kill la Kill, but it's definitely not for everyone. If you don't like blood or fanservice, don't watch it. Otherwise it's a really good action series.
My all time favorite has to be Soul Eater, though. I'm so excited for the spinoff to come out in April!
I've recently started FLCL. It's pretty good so far! I absolutely love Studio Triggers' animation.

Studio Ghibli movies practically go without saying! Fullmental Alchemist (the 2003 version) and Monster are also definitely favorites of mine. Recently I started watching Yu Yu Hakusho, and I'm really enjoying that, too!

I saw Kill La Kill a while ago and it is pretty good. Their dramatic big fonts on parts are just silly to the anime though. I'm not a big fan of the show but I like the action and animation and it's pretty creative.
The only anime I ever finished was Tamako Market. It is a cute slice of life anime, Dera the bird made the anime though pretty much, I felt he was the most interesting character of the show. It was an okay anime though.

I've been watching One Piece lately and holy crap is it good. It's a really bizarre show, but it blends humor and drama effortlessly. The first few seasons are kinda bland but once you get to the Grand Line it starts picking up.
